New 1.5 HP Delta Dust Collector 50-786

July 19th, 2010

Delta has launched a new dust collector.  The 50-786 is a pretty typical 1.5 HP dust collector.   In fact its not much changed from the old 50-760 dust collector.  Its got a snazzy new paint job, and a redesigned cart, but the 11.5″ impeller and the 1 micron bag remain the same.   The new cart does appear to make changing the bag a bit easier, but other than that there doesn’t appear to be much reason to upgrade.   The price also remains a bout the same though at $410.  It should be available in August.

Delta’s New 18″ Laser Drill Press

July 2nd, 2010

Delta just introduced a new 18″ Laser Drill Press.  Sadly this doesn’t mean it uses lasers for drilling, just that it has a pair of lasers that throw an X down on the work surface where the bit will land.  The drill press has a 3/4 hp motor, and a 6″ quill stroke (the distance the chuck will move down).  It features a nice large 20″ x14″ table, that can tilt forward, and left to right.  In addition a pair of T-slots allow the use of fixtures, and a removable center insert.  It has a three pulley system that allows for 16 speeds from 170 to 3000RPM.  The pulleys auto-tension, so changing speeds is fairly painless.  Although I like to bolt down a drill press as they are inherently top-heavy, the large cast iron base should make this more stable.  The retail price is $829, and it should be showing up in stores soon.

Delta 22-590 Thickness Planer

June 25th, 2010

The new Delta 22-590 Thickness Planer has just been officially announced.  Its a 13″ wide portable planer, in the familiar 4-post style.  It features a 3-blade head, that runs at 10,000 RPM for a nice smooth cut.  It has a different head locking system than other similarly designed tools, and claims (like most others have claimed) to eliminate snipe.  The material removal gauge works over the full distance of the cutter, as opposed to many similar planers, where the gauge only works in the center.  Dust collection may be an issue, as there doesn’t appear to be any way to hook a collector up to it, and the chips might get sucked back in to mar the surface.  The planer should start showing up in stores in July, with a MSRB of $530
